Just to hop in and beat ValueThinker to the obligatory energy efficiency plug, consider a high efficiency top loader (no center post agitator), if a top loader is what you want. As opposed to something like an led vs plasma tv, the difference in total cost of ownership is substantial with a high efficiency machine since you’re saving water, energy to heat the water, and energy the evaporate the water in the dryer.

The three brands you use in the poll as made by the same manufacturer Whirlpool. Just different brands labels on the same model line.

Edited: Sorry Nate, I missed your post.

LG – My trusted local appliance dealer steered me away from LG from a parts point of view saying LG (for washers and dryers) does not yet have a major supply point in the US. I you need a part it currently has to come from overseas. Can’t wait that long if either unit were to go down.

Not to hijack the thread, but when — apart from obvious equipment failure — should one replace the washer to take advantage of technical improvements? I inherited a Lady Kenmore (hate that name) with the house I bought 15 years ago. It seems to do the job, though sometimes I give it an extra spin cycle at the end if the clothes are still a bit too wet. That’s not enough for me to want to replace it, and I can think of a million more interesting things to spend $500 on. But am I missing out on a better, and more efficient washing experience?

John 3:16 (chapter 3, verse 16 of the Gospel of John) is one of the most widely quoted verses from the Christian Bible.[1] It has been called the “Gospel in a nutshell”[2] because it is considered a summary of some of the most central doctrines of traditional Christianity:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16 (KJV)
Context:
The verse occurs in a narrative in the third chapter of John taking place in Jerusalem. Nicodemus, a member of the ruling council, comes to talk with Jesus, whom he calls Rabbi. Jesus’s “miraculous signs” have convinced Nicodemus that Jesus is “from God”. In reply, Jesus declares, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” (verses 5–6). John 3:16 summarizes Jesus’s lesson to Nicodemus: that belief in Jesus is the path to eternal life. In this passage, Jesus proclaims himself the Messiah and lays out important aspects of Christian theology. This shows a contrast with the Gospel of Mark, for instance, in which Jesus often tries to keep his position as Messiah secret until his final trip to Jerusalem.
Christian wall crosses and wall crucifixes could be a representation of of the above that would provide inspiration for all.

By CLAUDIA FELDMAN and BARBARA KARKABI Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/life/religion/5932563.htm

Mid-afternoon Friday, the Rev. Dominic Huy The Trinh knew exactly what he wanted to say to the hundreds of mourners who would be filling the pews at Our Lady of Lavang for the 6 p.m. service.

Much earlier in the day, Trinh learned that the chartered bus carrying members of his northwest Harris County church and Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church in southeast Houston smashed into a bridge guardrail in North Texas.

While Trinh didn’t know the exact death toll, more than a dozen pilgrims were dead and at least 40 were injured.

“I will tell (my parishioners) we don’t know what happened, but we are not the owners of our lives,” Trinh said. “God created everything. We have to trust in God, accept everything that He has given us and pray for the victims. Those who died went to Heaven, and God will watch those in the hospitals and help them.”

Before the accident, the religious pilgrims were on their way to Carthage, Mo., for the Marian Days festival, which honors the Virgin Mary, patron saint of refugees. Celebrated since 1978, the four-day event is the main religious gathering for Vietnamese-American Roman Catholics.

Four Houston parishes serve roughly 40,000 Vietnamese-American Catholics.

At Vietnamese Martyrs Church here, Theresa Le, red-eyed and distraught, prayed for seven friends who had been on the bus. Her best friend, Vo Ta, died.

“She was a very nice person,” said Le of the friend she’s cherished for 20 years. “Before she left on the trip, she came to my house and brought me cupcakes.”

Le, a post office employee, said the congregation at 10610 Kingspoint is like a family to her. It was established in 1986 and has grown over the years to serve 700 households. The exterior is simple red brick, with a Vietnamese mural decorating both doors. In the sanctuary, a beautiful swath of green material serves as a backdrop to a life-size statue of Jesus.

Our Lady of Lavang, 12311 Old Foltin, was established in 1985 and has grown to serve 730 families. The church is named after a place in Vietnam where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared. The conventional building was replaced in 2001 with a structure with multi-tiered, pagoda-like red roofs.

The dragons perched on the edges of the roof and the 27-foot painted window of the Lady of Lavang are reminders of the homeland that many parishioners abandoned to begin new lives in the United States.

The journey from Vietnam is celebrated in Missouri at Marian Days.

Kim Vu, anchor and program manager for Radio Saigon, Houston 900 AM, attended the celebration seven years ago and described it as a religious event and family reunion.

“The important thing is that it’s a way for people to express their thanks to the Virgin Mary.”

At the Vietnamese Martyrs Church, “they are all in shock,” said Thuy Vu, CEO of Radio Saigon, who is a member. “The pastor of the church, Father Thanh Vu, went early in the morning to Dallas. He just called the station and reported from the hospital. He asked everybody to pray for the deceased and wounded and their families. He assured them that God never means to do bad things to people and to hang on to their faith.”

At 6 p.m. Aug. 8, Radio Saigon had an open airtime so everyone in the community can express their feelings, Vu said.

“The callers say it feels so strange,” she said. “Even the ones who don’t know the victims are so upset and shocked. They want everyone to call in so they don’t feel like they are alone.”

In a written statement, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo offered comfort and support to members.

“We mourn for their families and the spiritual communities from which they came,” DiNardo wrote. “We pray for the intercession of our mother, Mary, that she may grant the families peace in knowing that their loved ones are now with her Son, Jesus.”

Crescent Hill Baptist Church will celebrate its 75th anniversary this coming Sunday. The church, located on hill along Two Notch Road, is known for its white steeple that is visible for miles. Pastor Ron Bryan stands in front of the church.

It’s a church with a tiny congregation, and just maybe the tallest steeple in Columbia.

Crescent Hill Baptist, on Two Notch Road near Beltline Boulevard, celebrates 75 years Sunday. Its gleaming white steeple topped by a cross is a beacon of hope not just for its mostly senior congregation, but for others, too.

“I can’t tell you how many times people — strangers — have stopped at our church and come in and told me, ‘You don’t know me, but I have been a patient in Providence Hospital, and I was in despair, and I looked out the window and saw your steeple, and it gave me hope,” says Pastor Ron Bryan, 61.

Over the years, it has been passed down that Crescent Hill’s steeple of hope, as it’s called, might be the city’s tallest.

The verdict, after working with the Richland County GIS mapping office: Crescent Hill Baptist just may be closer to the angels than any other church in Columbia — absent an official elevation survey of every city church.

Crescent Hill is 356 feet above sea level, its steeple about 75 feet higher.

On top of many steeples are religious crosses, which can be seen for great distances.
