Need a new washer..what brand? (Kenmore, Maytag, Whirlpool?)
Just to hop in and beat ValueThinker to the obligatory energy efficiency plug, consider a high efficiency top loader (no center post agitator), if a top loader is what you want. As opposed to something like an led vs plasma tv, the difference in total cost of ownership is substantial with a high efficiency machine since you’re saving water, energy to heat the water, and energy the evaporate the water in the dryer.
The three brands you use in the poll as made by the same manufacturer Whirlpool. Just different brands labels on the same model line.
Edited: Sorry Nate, I missed your post.
LG – My trusted local appliance dealer steered me away from LG from a parts point of view saying LG (for washers and dryers) does not yet have a major supply point in the US. I you need a part it currently has to come from overseas. Can’t wait that long if either unit were to go down.
Not to hijack the thread, but when — apart from obvious equipment failure — should one replace the washer to take advantage of technical improvements? I inherited a Lady Kenmore (hate that name) with the house I bought 15 years ago. It seems to do the job, though sometimes I give it an extra spin cycle at the end if the clothes are still a bit too wet. That’s not enough for me to want to replace it, and I can think of a million more interesting things to spend $500 on. But am I missing out on a better, and more efficient washing experience?
